Bottle Episode; n. (I usually call it a hostage episode) A bottle episode is an episode of a tv show where the cast can't leave for some reason. Typically a hostage situation allows for an easy chance to do a bottle episode. Origin. An episode of Community.
DVD Decay; n. Term to describe what happens when you watch a movie on your not-so-big scene television instead of watching it in a theater. Like say, when I...you are watching Inception and you realize that watching it on your television doesn't quite give you the same emotions that watching it in a theater does.
The Final Girl; n.
Grey's Anatomy Soliloquy; n. I'm not sure if what I'm going to describe is a soliloquy but... There is this thing that happens on Grey' Anatomy but when a character is trying to explain something to another character usually about their personality they will go off into some really really annoying soliloquy or monologue. It usually starts with a sentence unrelated to anything that is explained and repeated 5 or 6 times.
The Male Gaze; n. "In her article 'Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema', written in 1973 and published in Screen in 1975, Laura Mulvey argued that the controlling gaze in cinema is always male. Spectators are encouraged to identify with the look of the male hero and make the heroine a passive object of erotic spectacle" -from the fantastic book Feminist Film Theorists. Though it's never said the male gaze is always white and male. There are very few times in which there are black male gazes or is the hero. Despite this any woman can be objectified.
Manic Pixie Dream Girl; n. A woman in a movie who's role is to make a guy happy about his gloomy existence. She herself doesn't have much of a plot. For the movies purpose she exists only for him. Origin. Feminist Frequency.
[The] Medellin Effect; n. When a tv show or movie has a great trailer but is horrible. This is really funny if you are an Entourage Fan.
Psychic Black Person; n. One of the many typical roles for black people on television. The Psychic Black woman gives information to the white leads. Usually white male but I've seen white male and white female characters search for help from the psychic black woman who may or may not also have some sort of chants that she does. She may or may not have some knowledge of voodoo and something "supernatural" that may or may not be explained because she is not the main character. Note: Most of the time the person with these abilities is a black woman. The only psychic black man I've ever seen was Papa Midnight [his real name btw] in Constantine. Origin. I like using the phrase psychic black woman but Black Horror Film calls it The Mystic Darkie. Ex. Of Psychic Black Person: Oracle in The Matrix, That's so raven, The mother in Avatar
Spiritual Black Person; n. An offshoot of Psychic Black Person. The only difference is that it has nothing to do with horror movies or movies that are obviously"strange." This person will bring everything back to god in someway.
[A] Taye Diggs; n. a fake coffee drink thought up by a character on the hilarious Cougar Town. "I'm going to have a Taye Diggs which is black and smooth but sweet."
Vagenda; n. Combination of the word "vagina" and "agenda." Origin. The television show Fringe.
